More cycle friendly tram
I recently (June) used one of these new trams in Padua, Italy and was very impressed by
their speed, riding qualities and capacity (and popularity).
A notable feature is the single guide rail/ rubber
tire system which I suspect would dramatically reduce construction costs - it
could also potentially address some of the issues associated with dual tram
tracks and cyclists.
Because of their lower construction costs, this type of
system could potentially provide a viable light rail option for Christchurch
(and rule out any expansion of the existing tourist tram route on the grounds it
that it could form the basis of a city wide light rail system).
They are manufactured by a company in France, and
have been/ are being installed in three other European cities and a city in
China. There is a website is at: http://www.lohr.fr/transport-public_gb.htm .

More cycle friendly tram
Looks good, but I fear a tad too modern for Chch. The rolling stock needs to be at least 100 years to fit in with special olde worlde character of the city. Also, are there any bike racks on these contraptions?
