October 2010 Local Government elections

We strongly believe in participatory democracy, social justice and fair play. Therefore we urge members to vote in the up-coming local government elections in October.

Only one politically oriented group involved in these elections have approached Spokes to explain their policies. They are It's Our City http://itsourcity.org.nz/ . The candidates who have signed their pledge should be given serious consideration.

But we want you to make an informed choice. To this end we plan to release an election special around 20th Sept.

Flirting not fighting for Climate Change

Megan was one of the starter uppers of Frocks On Bikes.

Call to change car use - well-pitched cycle safety message in the Press

This article in Saturday's Press highlights cycle safety, but in a positive way.  I love the way the young teacher who was hit by a car says she intends to get straight back into cycling, and identifies over-use of cars as the problem.  Her bike T-shirt completes the positive image.
