Lower Avon River Ride (SPOKES ride #3)

WEATHER UPDATE: The forecast looks a bit dodgy... but the rain may not come till evening. If it is still warm and dry at 2pm I will be there and we will do as much of the ride as the weather permits. If the SW has already hit by 2 and it's bad enough I will post a cancellation notice here.  Paul

Meet at: Kibblewhite Reserve parking area next to the South Brighton (Bridge St) bridge.

This ride will explore New Brighton and Bexley, and in particular the pathways along the lower Avon River. The route also features the Bexley wetlands and Anzac Drive reserve. Along the way, you'll experience a range of cycle facilities, good and not so good!

Our route will be similar to the one on this map. Sorry, the details are from 2007, as I haven't had time to revise it. Bring a copy along, we can update things on the day!  Paul

SPOKES Recreational Rides for 08-09 Season of Cycling

· Spokes rides this Season celebrate Christchurch as the City of Cycles, and the City of Rivers. Each of our five rides takes us along parts of the Avon or Heathcote Rivers, and will encourage you to enjoy these great places by bike!

· The rides are suitable for people of all ages and cycling abilities, and are especially designed to provide a positive riding experience for less seasoned cyclists.

· There is NO COST to anyone going on these rides, they are all organised and run by Spokes volunteers.

· All rides are loops - they start and finish at the same spot. We mostly ride along quiet streets and cycle paths, although we do need to cross some main roads. Each ride has a guide, but there is no special traffic management; each rider is responsible for their own safety.

· The rides are all on Sunday afternoons, meet at the place indicated for a 2pm start. Bring clothing for all weathers, a drink & snacks.
