CITY - AVON RIVER RIDE (Spokes ride #5)
Meet at: Armagh Street bridge entrance to Hagley Park / Gardens.
We will follow the Avon downstream from the centre of the city, exploring the existing opportunities and potential of the river corridor for cycling. Our route will take us as far as Avonside (or if time permits, Avondale), using quiet streets and extensive off road paths on both sides of the river. The total distance is about 22-25 km and the ride will take about 2.5 hours. We'll finish up at Le Cafe at the the Arts Centre for a coffee.

SPOKES Recreational Rides for 08-09 Season of Cycling
· Spokes rides this Season celebrate Christchurch as the City of Cycles, and the City of Rivers. Each of our five rides takes us along parts of the Avon or Heathcote Rivers, and will encourage you to enjoy these great places by bike!
· The rides are suitable for people of all ages and cycling abilities, and are especially designed to provide a positive riding experience for less seasoned cyclists.
· There is NO COST to anyone going on these rides, they are all organised and run by Spokes volunteers.
· All rides are loops - they start and finish at the same spot. We mostly ride along quiet streets and cycle paths, although we do need to cross some main roads. Each ride has a guide, but there is no special traffic management; each rider is responsible for their own safety.
· The rides are all on Sunday afternoons, meet at the place indicated for a 2pm start. Bring clothing for all weathers, a drink & snacks.
· Information about all Spokes 08-09 rides can be found on our website, here. If we cancel a ride due to very bad weather we will post info on the website.
