What's stopping teenage girls from riding bikes?
An interesting link to the Guardian and a discussion on why girls and women don't cycle in Britain. A number of correspondents point out this isn't the case in other parts of Europe.

I agree with the article. In my experience girls are more likely to feel vulnurable and parents are more likely to be protective of their girls then their boys. As boys are seen as tougher and more able to deal with danger.
In all my days at school the only fashion concerns in regards to cycling cam from the boys. A particular type of boy who are meticulate about their appearances. But even then a lot of people fixed their hair or sometimes had a shower when they arrived at school. Its when they arrive at school that fashion is more important not on the way to school.
