Mid May Special

Mid May Special

Support needed for Spokes' Oral Submission to CCC LTCCP!!

At 1:50pm on Monday 18th May Spokes will present their oral submission to the CCC draft Long Term Council Community Plan, a very important document. The presentation is in the Council Chambers ground floor of CCC at 163-173 Tuam St. We have ten minutes and so being a little early would help. Everything should be over in about 20 minutes.

Briefly Council propose to reduce the cycling budget from the original $20 million to $5 million. If you agree that this is woefully inadequate to produce the desired sustainable and healthy community, you should come along if you can.

We want to make it very clear this is absolutely NOT a protest and we must treat everyone with the respect we expect in a civilised society. Nor is it only for members of Spokes. The purpose is to give elected councillors the encouragement, support and confidence to approve the budget as originally proposed by Cycling and Walking staff.

We want people from all walks of life and the broadest range of members of our society. You will be there as individuals and not representing any group. There are about 40 seats in the public gallery and it would be good to make it standing room only.

If you can or can't come, please spread this around your cycling and walking related friends or anyone who might be interested. For more information please contact spokes_chch [at] can [dot] org [dot] nz

P.S. (Don't forget Spokes' AGM on Monday 25th May at 7:00pm the Canterbury Provincial Council Buildings, Durham Street, between Armagh and Gloucester Streets)
