Submission on Bus Priority project Dec 2007

17 Dec 2007 - 17:00
Description:

Christchurch City notified three proposals for bus priority projects on their website, and requested public input. The routes are Papanui-Main North Road, Colombo Street/ City South, and Queenspark. Detailed information about these routes is at: http://www.ccc.govt.nz/buspriority/ The bus priority projects are of particular significance for cycling as it is proposed that the bus lanes will also be available for cyclists. Consultation closed on 17 December, but Spokes was advised that submissions would be received up to Christmas.  Spokes members attended a number of consultation meetings and several more are planned for Jan 08.  The attached submission was lodged on 20/12/2007.

Bus priority project - response to submissions from CCC

Christchurch City have sent out letters to all submitters on the bus priority projects. These set out proposed changes to the Papanui/ Main North Road and Colombo Street/ City South bus priority projects. The letters are attached to the entry for the Spokes submission (above). One potentially negative feature of the changes is for the part time bus lanes outside schools to be delayed until 4pm so that students can be picked up by cars! The next step is for these projects to go to Community Boards and then full Council, where there will be opportunities for further public submissions.
