Your opinion on tram tracks
As a cyclist, how do you feel about the existing tram tracks in Christchurch? Have you had scary moments, nearly coming to grief on the existing tram tracks? Should Christchurch City Council be extending the tourist tram network, as they currently propose?
Please fill out this survey. We will use your feedback to work with Christchurch City Council through the issues with their proposed tram route extension.

Trams: making the track safer
The tram company could take these two simple steps to improve safety without any re-routing or big upheaval.
They need to start at flash points like the end of Armagh St. then extend to other areas if they work well.
1) Put a non-slip surface on the top of the rails.
2) Use spring-loaded gap fillers to cover the grooves that swallow a cycle wheel. These have a non-slip surface and stay in place for cyclists - covering the groove. The weight of a tram pushes them down against the springs. More specifically the flange of the tram wheel pushes them down into the recess.
I am happy to elaborate on these suggestions if I can speak to the right person.
